Solarinvest today announced that in July construction of a 8,4 MW solar power plant in the province of Ragusa, Sicily will commence. This will be the first plant of a projected total of 11 plants, together comprising one of the biggest solar power parks in Italy with a total installed capacity of 65 MW.
At the 25 hectar site in the province of Ragusa, Sicily, Solarinvest will install First Solar modules together with SMA central inverters, using a fixed ground mounting system. The plant is scheduled to be operational by November 2010, benefitting from the current feed-intariff under Conto Energia II.
The remaining 10 solar power plants are in various stages of development. They are expected to receive final authorizations within the next months and start construction in Q4/2010. Completion of construction is scheduled for Q1/2011.
"Solarinvest is extremely pleased with the construction start of its solar park in Sicily and we are grateful for the support by the local communities. Our vast experience in project management, premier component manufacturers together with a leading EPC contractor will ensure completion of construction in a timely manner. We are excited about building one of Italy’s largest solar parks in Sicily and helping it turn into a truly “green” island”, says Rainer Goeritz, Managing Director of Solarinvest.
