Masdar PV has signed a contract for the supply of 5 MW of silicon-based thin-film PV modules for an industrial solar power station in the Indian desert. The direct contract partner of Masdar PV is Belectric, one of the world's largest PV system integration companies and a subsidiary of Beck Energy GmbH in Kolitzheim. The first construction phase of the ground-mounted solar park will be completed in 2010. The investor is a leading principal for PV systems in India with an expansive project pipeline for large-scale power systems.
"All necessary on-site preparations have been completed and we can start construction“, explained Belectric Managing Director Bernhard Beck. "We have decided to collaborate with Masdar PV because their solar modules are particularly well suited to the local conditions." Masdar’s solar modules provide especially high energy yields under diffuse lighting conditions and high ambient temperatures. They are therefore especially suitable for use in arid zones and desert areas such as the Indian subcontinent, the Arabian Peninsula or North Africa. The 5 MW plant has a total surface area of approx. 150.000 m² and will later supply electricity for around 13,000 households.

This cooperation clearly shows that it was right to focus the activities of Masdar PV, one of the business divisions of Masdar Power, on the construction of large-scale industrial roof- and ground-mounted solar power plants ", says Frank Wouters, Managing Director of Masdar PV and Masdar Power. "This project positions us in one of the most promising solar markets of the future", he continues. The cooperation with Beck Energy and Belectric might soon bear more fruit – other large-scale projects are already being planned.
